I had about 5 different women recommend this book to me, and I am so glad they did. The story takes place in a North Carolina marsh in the 1950s onward. It blends together romance, hardship, discrimination, and mystery. This is not a typical book about a small town murder, but it manages to captivate your attention til the very end. I give it a 4 out of 5. You have to read this book consistently or the imagery might bore you a bit because the story's pace slows at times. However, the change of perspective each chapter helps keep you intrigued. I really enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say it's an absolute favorite.
