When God gives you a sister

Updated: Jun 9, 2019

As a little girl, my mom always told me and my sister “You two are going to be best friends someday.” Ironically, this phrase would come after the two of us literally pulled each other's hair out. There was not a single person on the planet that could annoy me as bad as my little sister. And the thought of ever being her friend practically made me sick.

The two of us could not have been more different. I am the typical overbearing, uptight first born. Whereas, she’s about as laid back as one can get without falling over. I stress over the tiny details of everything while she just kind of goes with the flow. Our biggest fights happened when I, the know-it-all, collided with her, the one who will argue with a brick wall.

Fast forward a few years and several catfights later, I realized how wrong I was about despising her. My hard-headed little sister who drove me absolutely crazy growing up is now my very best friend in the entire world. She is someone that I can share with, laugh with, and cry with. Whenever something happens in my life, she is one of the first people that I want to tell.

I used to hate it when my sister tried to copy my hairstyle or my makeup. However, these days I find myself wanting to copy her. I catch myself asking her for beauty advice and wanting to steal her clothes. It’s funny how these days we actually help fix each other's hair and any hair that’s pulled is done on complete accident.

I’m not quite sure when me and my sister went from sworn enemies to besties, but I do know that I am thankful that God saw it fit to make us sisters. No one in this world understands me like she does. Since we are at only 18 months apart, she has been there practically my entire life. I can only hope that I never have to see a day without her.

Happy 19th birthday Brookie! You can do anything you set your mind to in life, and I am excited to see what you accomplish along the way. Love you!
